Due to COVID 19, ECS yearbooks will be here over the summer!  The printing plant had to close during the pandemic.  Once yearbooks arrive, they will be distributed.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I would like to welcome you to the Edmeston Central School District (ECS) and its website. I am proud to serve the students, parents, faculty, staff, Board of Education, and community of ECS as its Superintendent.

Since September 2016, I have served as the Superintendent for the Edmeston Central School District. I have more than 30 years of educational experience as a math teacher, coach for soccer, cross country, and track & field, Director for Math and Math/Science/Tech, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, and Superintendent. My experiences have taken me to schools in rural, suburban, and a combination of rural and city areas. In every district, I have always made decisions that promote learning for ALL students. My focus continues to be on children and providing them with the best education to open future doors of opportunity.

In 2018-19, the faculty, staff, and administrative team collaborated on the development of four goals for our district. These goals center on educating the whole child.

Goal 1 - Curriculum Goal
Implement a consistent curricular program in all subject areas to enhance student learning and achievement encompassing 21st Century Skills.

Goal 2 - Social Emotional Learning Goal
Embed character education and development awareness of social emotional needs across the curriculum to create a balanced learner who is mentally, physically, and emotionally healthy.

Goal 3 - Technology Goal
Integrate current technologies in Pre-K through 12th grade to enhance student learning and enable our students to demonstrate the skills necessary to thrive in a 21st Century environment.

Goal 4 - Financial Goal
Maintain the financial stability of the school district.

The Edmeston community is very supportive of the school and students.  Generations of families have graduated from ECS.  I believe ECS is a hidden gem for educating our students.  High school students are able to choose from AP and College courses, earning college credits and providing them with a distinct advantage in college.  We have the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way computer science sequence.  High school students are able to take career and technical education classes at Otsego-Northern Catskill BOCES which prepares them to enter the workforce upon graduation.

In the past two years, we have invested into our PK-5 reading programs to generate a love of reading while having most students reading on grade level.  This year, we introduced the Teachers College Writer’s Workshop in grades K-3 to develop a love of writing among students.  Also, we have started our 1:1 laptop initiative for students in grades 7, 9, 11, and 12.  ECS is dedicated to providing our students with similar learning opportunities that students have in larger school districts.

I am proud to serve as the Superintendent of Schools for ECS.  We have a dedicated faculty committed to the success of students.  Our parents, Board of Education members, and community are integral to the success of our students.  My door is always open to anyone who would like to discuss their ideas and provide feedback for helping ECS to continue to grow.  I can be reached by phone [(607) 965-8931], email [gfurman@edmeston.net], at one of my Coffee Talks [October 1, 2019; December 3, 2019; February 5, 2020; April 30, 2020], and at any student activity taking place at the school.  I thoroughly enjoy watching our students learn and grow in the classroom, on the stage, and on the athletic fields/courts.

Sincerely,
Gary Furman, Ed.D.
